Microsoft don’t use VSS?

2008-01-11

Whaddya know. IE8’s source code is managed using Perforce (click on my first link and scroll down past the smiley face to the change log). Yay for agile tools! I wonder why they don’t use VSS? No. I really don’t. Will perforce save them from the tar pit of doom? Bwahahahaha!

I thought Microsoft had quietly been using Perforce internally for many years now?

What Clive said – I have a vague recollection that it goes by some other name inside MS, though.

…a bit of googling suggests that name is ‘Source Depot’.

  4. Kevin Says:

MS licensed the code from Perforce a long time ago and has since heavily modified it to fit their needs and labeled it Source Depot.

Note that MSFT also have some new developer groupware which is apparently rather good. Really.
